Bio – “Stumpey” Daley
Hi, my name is Paul “Stumpey” Daley.
First and foremost I would like to thank my amazing wife for pushing me to join a disabled golfing group and putting
up with all the tales of if only , thanks Dee.
I’m called Stumpey due to the fact I’ve had numerous amputations 17 in fact due to a little known illness called Buergers disease which affects the capillaries.
I had my first amputation ( a finger in 1991) then my first below knee amputation was in 1992 and a couple of years after that I started to play golf on a regular basis during which I had more fingers amputated and the golfing drifted away.
In 2003 I had my first of 3 heart attacks (2011 & 2012 also) which was a downer.
Then over the next couple of years I had 3 amputations to my left foot which ultimately led to a 4th amputation below knee.
After this I started golfing again and it took a little time to get used to standing and swinging ( still end up in a heap now and then though).
I only played sporadically (6-10 times a year) over the next few years after the heart attacks.
I then found a disabled group in 2017 and began playing golf with them and managed to win various events. Last year thanks to an invite from the Handigolf society I managed to win the amputee section of the event.
In 2018 I also joined the Scottish disabled golf and curling group playing numerous great Scottish venues. After a couple of prestigious runner up places I was honoured to win the Lynn & Billy Cairns memorial trophy in 2022 at Ralston golf club in Glasgow and last year over a 3 day competition I managed to win the British Masters Disabled competition at Falkirk GC and Dunblane New GC.
I’ve also managed to play in numerous international events for England, Scotland (don’t ask ????) and Europe with mixed results.
I’m hoping to carry on being able to play disabled golf and with the Golfing with Disabilities society encouraging more disabled people into the game of golf.
Cheers Stumpey.
