The Stage is set

A raft of highly rated golfers with disability ascended on Herons Reach in Blackpool earlier this month (10th to 12th) for the new prestigious New Enemies Cup between GWD England and SDGC Scotland, showcasing a thrilling three-day event packed with competitive spirit, show casing top disabled golf players. With 14 players from each side, the GWD England vs SDGC Scotland clash promised intense action and did not disappoint

Day 2

The second day and the weather was still on our side with the sun coming through. The day shifted to the Four-Ball Better Ball format, where pairs from each team competed, with the better score from each pair counting towards either winning, loosing or halving the hole. This format tested individual prowess and partnership coordination. Scotland came out strong, with several pairs posting impressive scores, narrowing the gap. England, while facing a more determined Scottish side, managed to hold their ground, thanks to some clutch performances under pressure. The day ended with England 7 Scotland 5, the tables were changed.

Final Day

The final day was a true test of individual skill with Singles match play. Each player faced off in head-to-head battles, with every point crucial in determining the overall victor. The matches were fiercely contested, with momentum swinging back and forth. England's lead was challenged continuously by the Scots, who showed incredible tenacity. The galleries were treated to exceptional golf around the course with putts dropping from all over the greens and some dramatic finishes. The final point needed came down to Oulton Hall’s very own Neil Patrick with the last putt. Ultimately, the contest concluded with a narrow victory for England, whose consistency and early lead proved just enough to secure the win. Scotland’s valiant effort and sportsmanship were commendable, promising an even more exciting rematch in the future. The GWD England vs SDGC Scotland at Herons Reach highlighted not only the competitive nature of the sport for Disabled Golf but also the enduring spirit of friendly rivalry. It was well supported throughout the three days, the incredible efforts Matthew and his team at Herons Reach did for the GWD was amazing. It was simply incredible, from organising team shirts on Sunday afternoon to ensuring the buggies were sorted each day and providing personalized bag tags, your attention to detail was phenomenal.
